From tracking to traction

Okay, your update is out in the world. You shared it. You stirred some buzz. People clicked.

Now what?

This is your chance to move from “we shipped it” to “we shipped it — and here’s what happened.” 💅

🧭 Start by revisiting your goals

Remember those goals you set in Chapter 2.2? Go back to them.

Ask:

  • Did the right people engage with the content?
  • Did our announcement drive the traffic we wanted?
  • Did updated pages see a boost?
  • Did we make progress toward the bigger initiative this update supports?

If you didn’t set specific metrics this time — that’s okay! Use this release as your baseline, so you can measure growth from here.

🔎 Turn insights into action

The data you collected isn’t for reporting. Once you know what happened — use your data!

  • If something overperformed
    • Celebrate it! Show off top-performing pages, share internal wins
    • Consider expanding on that content or turning it into a broader pattern
  • Identify what flopped
    • Did an updated page barely get views? Time for a repost or reframe
    • Rethink how you’re messaging it. Maybe people didn’t know why it mattered (go back to the "why")
  • If traffic dropped off after day one
    • Do a follow-up post. Reshare with a different angle or clearer CTA.
  • If a specific team never engaged
    • If people didn’t engage, maybe the messaging wasn’t clear enough (or they didn’t know what to do with it)
    • Send a targeted message to that team, or ask if they need help applying the update
  • Guide your next update 
    • What content should you expand? What content got the most engagement?
    • What needs a deeper explanation? 
    • Where did people spend the most time?
    • What messaging worked?
    • What’s the next logical update to keep momentum going?

The better you track, and reflect the better you launch next time.

🪩 Share it, baby

Don’t keep your insights in a Notion doc to yourself! Use your results to:

  • Share wins in your team sync
  • Drop a “look what landed” slide to leadership
  • Write a short post-launch recap (yes, a one-paragraph Slack post counts!)
  • Build credibility for your design system work and its impact (#humblebrag)
  • Get people excited about what’s coming next
